Versailles, built as a summer home away from Paris by Louis XVI is the definition of Beauty and Decadence. We took an early train out of Paris to try and beat the crowd but it was in vain. The crowds of people were a spectacle in and of itself. If you are going to Versailles, I’d say just get there when you get there. If you are coming during the high seasons, then there is no beating the crowds. Also, if you decide to go on a weekday, which is recommended on most other sites, there is a very likely chance that there will be a dozen or so school groups, so it may be better to go on the weekends so you can catch the fountain show as well. With that being said, it was definitely worth every line and crowded room. The palace exudes decadence and the gardens on par with best. Buy the passport. Marie Antoinette’s Estate is beautiful.
