One of my favorite days in Paris started off at the Rodin Museum, a museum dedicated to the French sculptor Auguste Rodin. Rodin agreed to donate all of his work as well as his private collection of work by Van Gogh and Renoir to the state of France under the condition that his former home Villa des Brillants be turned into a museum dedicated to his work. The museum displays many of his major work in the garden. Lance and I had lunch in the little cafe located in the garden by the lake. The food was good and the view was magnificent.
After enjoying our lovely morning, we took the 4 metro to Porte de Clignancourt for the Marche aux Puces de Saint Quen, one of the largest flea markets in Paris and was featured in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. We ventured off the main path lined with vendors selling street wear and african goods onto the smaller streets for the good stuff. Jumping into character of a pirate on a treasure hunt I scavenged one stall to other, finding everything from old hardware and light fixtures to Hermes scarfs and Chanel jewelry. I was in heaven. While the venders didn’t particularly want their picture taken, I managed to sneak a few.
After rummaging through the centuries at the flea market, we spent the rest of the night at Champ de Mars with a picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower. Something about Parisian grass that is just so soft and inviting. We sat there for hours waiting for the sun to set and the tower to come to life. Let me just apologize in advance for the many photos of the Eiffel Tower you are about to see. Every hour I thought was the prettiest but the pink sky kept proving me wrong.
